Our Board is skills-based drawing from Active Partners of Coast Community Church who bring the necessary expertise and experience for quality Christ-centred governance.
The role of the Board is to provide governance oversight, set direction and monitor the performance of the School in line with our vision, mission and values.
Board Members
Tim Cornish
Board Member
Tim is a dedicated leader with extensive experience across business, community service, and education. He has three children who attended the Coast, deepening his connection to the community and its values.
With 20 years of experience as Managing Director of North Construction and Building, Tim transitioned to a new chapter by opening Eden Waters, a spiritual retreat, with his wife, Sue. His leadership journey has been shaped by 15 years of membership in The Executive Connection, a renowned business mentoring and coaching organisation.
He has served as an Elder at Coast Community Church for 18 years, including two terms as Chairperson, and has been a director of ET Australia, which encompasses ET Australia Secondary College, for 15 years, currently serving as Chair. Tim is passionate about values-based leadership and is committed to using his spiritual gifts of leadership and discernment to serve others.
David Barnett
Deputy Chair/Chair of Audit and Risk Committee
David has worked in the education industry for the past thirty-five years.
Most of this time was spent at Pearson, the global education company, where he worked for thirty-two years in variety of leadership positions, including Managing Director of Asia Pacific.
Since leaving Pearson in 2021, David has worked in a range of advisory, interim and non-executive roles, all in the education sector.
Today, he is Chair of Catalyst, a private RTO, and VU Online, a wholly-owned entity of Victoria University.
David is a graduate of Macquarie University, MGSM and the AICD.
He and his wife Leanne live on the Central Coast and are active members of Coast Community Church.
Matthew Johnston
Board Member
Matthew joined the Board in 2022 following a 15 year period of private sector business leadership & management. Matthew’s area of expertise lies in financial management of organisations and operational leadership & management. Matthew has prior educational board experience through serving as a Director on the board of a not for profit educational organisation. He is presently Mission Capacity Manager for Coast Community Church.
Cassandra Pendlebury
Board Member
Cass joined the Board in May 2021 after teaching in Christian schools for 10 years and then serving as the Christian Schools Australia Executive Officer for NSW/ACT for the past 7 years. She has also had 20 years’ experience in Human Resource Management Consulting experience, both internationally and in Australia. Cass is currently employed as Regional Director for Alphacrucis University College overseeing the St Phillips Teaching school and is Founding Director of Grace Rhythms Mentoring Consultancy.
Bronwyn Schoonbeek
Child Safe Champion
Bronwyn joined the Board in May 2024 and is a parent of two boys enrolled at Coast Christian School. Bronwyn and her husband Josh have been partners of Coast Community Church for over 10 years where she has been involved with running children’s ministries such as Kids Connection and Mainly Music. Bronwyn is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife and has worked for NSW Health for the past 15 years.
Company Secretary
Lyndelle Taylor
Lyndelle has been a lawyer since 2008 and has consulted to not-for-profit boards in the areas of governance, compliance, regulatory, policy and legal research for over 15 years. She has been the Company Secretary of Coast Christian School twice, with the latest office commencing February 2020. Lyndelle is a member of the NSW Law Society, Graduate member of Governance Institute of Australia and Graduate member of the AICD Company Directors Course. She is a committed member of Coast Community Church.
